Pollite have over 50 years of experience in the manufacture of fibreglass and the design of frangible safety poles. We are one of the largest manufacturers of fibreglass masts in Europe, and are proud to have completed projects internationally. Our frangible structures are situated at airports and airfields across Europe, Asia, South America, the Middle East and Australasia.

A world-leading, LED internally-lit Wind Direction Indicator (WDI) was installed and commissioned at Turkmenabat Airport in Turkmenistan. Working with our partners Energosintez 2006, the internally-lit unit was chosen for its maintenance-free design, longevity and easy installation. Pollite WDIs are fully tested and approved to ICAO regulations.
Pollite provided Perth with an improved approach system for Australia’s 4th largest airport. We worked with ADB Safegate to upgrade the airport’s lighting infrastructure. This would eliminate the need for diversions that have previously been necessary due to foggy weather. As Perth is an isolated location, being able to safely land in bad weather conditions has been a huge benefit.
Leeds Bradford Airport sees over 3.6 million passengers pass through its doors each year. Part of their Strategic Development Plan included major improvements to the 2,250m runway. Pollite replaced all approach masts on both approaches as the previous masts no longer met the required safety standards. The on-site installation was completed by Edward Dewhurst Ltd, with the assistance of Pollite when required.
Pollite approach masts have been installed at Hurghada airport in Egypt. The airport has undergone a major construction project and Pollite designed and manufactured the frangible structures for the approach lighting. This was one of our first projects in Egypt, alongside our local partner Cairo Engineering Equipment.
Working alongside long-established and highly experienced contractor Edward Dewhurst Ltd, Pollite were given a challenging project at the remote location of RAF Valley in NW Wales. We were required to re-use the existing approach mast bases. However the masts and lights needed to be offset to meet the new design. This was in addition to a complete runway refurbishment. For ease of maintenance, all masts were supplied with Pollite’s unique screwjack system. This allows the masts to be raised and lowered safely using just a battery powered drill.
Pollite worked alongside three respected global companies on an order for frangible approach masts at Birmingham Airport’s Runway 33 extension. We worked with Halcrow, VolkerFitzpatrick, and AGL installers Precision ATM Ltd to design and manufacture our FAA and ICAO compliant frangible approach masts for Runway 33. The project saw the runway length increase to 3,003m and gave aircraft unlimited range from the West Midlands. By extending the existing runway length by 405m, aircraft can now take off from Birmingham Airport with more fuel. They can therefore fly non-stop direct to destinations currently out of reach, such as China, South America, South Africa and the west coast of the USA.
